IN-HOUSE STABILIZATION PROGRAM

Our In-House Stabilization Program provides temporary housing, food, clothing, transportation and case management for homeless families in Denver, with referrals for permanent/transitional housing, education/job training/placement, health care, child care, and counseling. Residents participate in a required series of living skills and parenting workshops. Our services are offered in a home-like, life-giving, safe environment.

When residents move to their own housing, they are eligible to receive the services of our Follow-Up Program.

The resurgence of COVID-19 in the Summer and Fall of 2021 continued to affect the way SHH provided emergency housing and services of the In-House Stabilization Program during the 2021-2022 Fiscal Year.

To serve single mothers with children and single women experiencing homelessness and the Denver community in accordance with its mission, we provided individualized case management to women as they called for shelter and provided emergency housing through the HOUSING THROUGH HOTELS program implemented during the 2020/2021 Fiscal Year. We developed this program in response to conditions precipitated by the advent of COVID-19 in March 2020, when the agency could not safely provide emergency shelter in its 136-year-old renovated building without risking community spread of the virus.

In 2021-2022 SHH received inquiries from and provided resources for at least 150 women. 30% of the initial conversations led to multiple calls and in-person meetings. These meetings provided consideration for transitional housing through SHH when a unit was available, and furnished food, hygiene items, bus tickets and gift cards to meet the immediate needs of families and single women.
